I have taught at a variety of both public and private school with students ranging from 2nd to 12th grade. The following is a sample of some of my favorites. All of these could be taught as a full year, in-school course, or as an after-school once a week class.

Improvisation

I love teaching this class to actors of all ages, and levels of experience. Since it's all about making it up as you go, each class is different and exciting for both myself and the students. It's also a great way for actors learn the basics of acting while having a great time and developing their improvisational skills and building self confidence.

Acting With Masks

This class is wonderfully and literally hands on! In this class the actors and I create masks from scratch and then bring them to life with histories. Then the final step is to create short scenes that include all the newly created characters. It is a great class for students who are shy, because they are able to learn some elements of acting, perform and gain self confidence while still feeling safe behind a mask.

Commedia dell'Arte

Commedia dell'Arte has long been a favorite of mine. It is all about physical comedy and ensemble acting. Whether the actors use masks or not, they are in for a lot of fun as they learn about Zanni and Pantalone, character development and how to work as an ensemble.

Playmaking

Choose your own adventure, theatre style! The actors create characters, then I create an outline of a story for the characters. Each class the actors improvise differents scenes and decide how to resolve the plot challenges. This class is great for actors, writers and readers. By the end of Playmaking class each actor is given a copy of a brand new original script they helped to create. I have also taught a more traditional playwriting class with older and/or more advanced actors.

Stage Combat

This class is actually about learning coordination, teamwork and body awareness while learning the secrets to stage fighting in a safe manner. Some of the standard moves the actors learn are hair pulls, slaps and foot stomps. Throughout the class, the actors create show improvised scenes to practice and showcase their new skills.
